Who we are

In NSW we’re working together to achieve marriage equality.

Members from all the major political parties have joined together to support equal marriage rights for everyone.

The National’s Trevor Khan, Liberal’s Bruce Notley-Smith, Labor’s Penny Sharpe, the Greens’ Cate Faehrmann and Independent Alex Greenwich have formed a working group that is committed to progressing marriage equality laws through the NSW Parliament.

Please join us in this united and historic campaign. Together we can ensure everyone in NSW has the right to marry the person they love.

Who we are
Why state based marriage equality?

Why state based marriage equality?

The working group believes that the best result for marriage equality would be for the Federal Parliament to amend the Marriage Act 1961. But with the numbers as they are in the current parliament, this might not be possible for some time.

Meanwhile, legal advice has indicated that the Commonwealth does not have exclusive powers to legislate in this area.

In recent years, NSW parliamentarians have shown that by working together we can remove discrimination against GLBTI couples. Same-sex couples are now treated equally in every other area of NSW law. It is time to finish the job.
