The NSW cross party working group for marriage equality has today given same-sex couples in NSW a Valentine’s Day gift with the release of the consultation draft of the NSW State Marriage Equality Bill 2013.
The NSW cross party working group for marriage equality has been working on the draft of the Bill since late 2012.
This morning, the NSW cross party working group for marriage equality presented the draft Bill to the Parliamentary Committee inquiring into same-sex marriage laws in NSW.
The aim of the NSW Bill is to provide for marriage equality by allowing for same-sex marriage between two adults regardless of their sex.
“We are thrilled to have a Marriage Equality Bill which we feel confident will stand up to any constitutional challenge.
“And we are very happy to be presenting the Bill to the Inquiry into Same-Sex Marriage laws in NSW on Valentine’s Day.
“British and French parliaments have recently voted in favour of marriage equality. NSW will be one of the next provinces globally to address this important and widely supported reform”
The Bill is in a draft stage and the NSW cross party working group for marriage equality will continue to work with community groups to ensure the best possible outcome for GLTBI people and their families.
The Inquiry into Same sex marriage law in NSW is taking public submissions until 1 March 2013. For more information visit the inquiry website here.
